Mobile World Congress Americas Got Off to a Strong Start

September 15, 2017

The first-ever Mobile World Congress Americas event is a wrap, and it appears to have been a strong start.

Mobile World Congress Americas Got Off to a Strong StartThe GSMA has announced that the three-day event saw over 21,000 visitors. It’s a far cry from the record-breaking 100,000+ that attended this year’s MWC in Barcelona, but given that last year’s MWC Shanghai saw its visitors jump 33 percent over the year before to reach 53,000, it’s fair to expect strong growth for MWC Americas going forward.

The GSMA reports that MWC Americas’ visitors came from 110 countries and territories, and that more than 55 percent of them hold “senior-level positions”, with 2,400 being CEOs. Twenty percent of attendees were women.

Commenting further on the success, GSMA CEO John Hoffman said the event saw a “strong level of engagement… particularly among senior-level attendees”.

Meanwhile, nominations are already open for the Glomo Awards of next year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which will run from February 26th to March 1st.
