Safran Identity & Security‘s new Managing Director for the APAC region, Seng Heng Chuah, is excited about the opportunities emerging along with the Internet of Things and the rise of Big Data.
In a new interview on the company’s blog, Chuah asserts, “There’s no doubt that Asia is the place where smart cities are awakening,” noting that some cities in the region “are already using IoT and Big Data to change the way traffic moves, to conserve energy and water, to increase business productivity and to improve the lives of citizens.” Chuah adds that industrial sectors also hold considerable potential for IoT technologies, pointing to opportunities in manufacturing and logistics. He also notes that security and public safety are “[a]nother important area”.
On that last point, Safran’s Changi airport project is exemplary. Chuah points out that the major Singapore airport will be adopting facial recognition technology for the first time care of Safran, whose MorphoPass biometric identity management solution will be used together with MorphoWay automated eGates to enable end-to-end passenger self-service based on biometric identification. The project illustrates how new technologies like biometrics can be used to make major civilian infrastructure more secure and efficient.
As other major companies also explore the opportunities associated with the IoT, Safran Identity & Security appears to have a sharp focus on those emerging in the APAC region.
