Samsung to Offer Glimpse of Iris-Scanning Galaxy S8 at MWC

February 2, 2017

“As for biometrics, the device will reportedly sport a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and will pick up where the failed Note7 left off with an iris-scanning capability.”

Samsung has previously said that it won’t launch its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, at this year’s Mobile World Congress, but it looks like attendees may nevertheless get a glimpse of the iris-scanning device.Samsung to Offer Glimpse of Iris-Scanning Galaxy S8 at MWC

Samsung is inviting journalists to a press conference at MWC scheduled for February 26th, where it says it “will unveil new products”; and the company has also announced the event will be live-streamed – tellingly, on the Galaxy section of its website. Meanwhile, TechRadar is reporting that the event will feature a one-minute clip profiling the device.

Much is already known, or at least strongly suspected. The Galaxy S8’s display will take up almost the entire front face of the device, and like the Galaxy S7 Edge, will feature a curved screen. As for biometrics, the device will reportedly sport a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and will pick up where the failed Note7 left off with an iris-scanning capability.

Some of this could finally get official confirmation at Samsung’s MWC event, but in any case a full-throated, official unveiling of the Galaxy S8 is expected for March 29th.
