Samsung Pay has arrived in Mexico, though it isn’t clear if people there can actually use it.
The service launches in the country without any official mention of bank support, neither from Samsung nor from whichever financial services organizations may be supporting the platform. That leaves the matter of which cards can be uploaded to Samsung’s platform something of a mystery.
Presumably, however, bank support is on the way, and Samsung is just eager to get the word out about Samsung Pay’s availability in the country as the holiday shopping season ramps up.
The Mexico ‘launch’ arrives soon after Samsung Pay’s bank support in Canada was dramatically extended, with Scotiabank, ATB Financial, Interac Debit, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa all getting onboard with CIBC, which led the way in that market. And it looks like the move comes just ahead of an anticipated launch in France, with reports of a French-language Samsung Pay app showing up in that country in September.
