Samsung is celebrating another anniversary for its mobile payment service — the second in as many months. It isn’t toying with sequential logic, as it did in jumping from the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to the Note7; rather, it’s marking the one-year anniversary of Samsung Pay in the US, a little more than a month after its first anniversary in South Korea.
The company says that at the one-year mark, Samsung Pay has the support of more than 500 financial institutions in the US, which comprise 80 percent of the US credit and debit card market. It has also rolled out new features like gift and reward card support, and cloud-based syncing allowing user data to be loaded simply and efficiently on a new device. And the company has teamed up with Quotient, formerly Coupons.com, to let users search for discounts and promotions within the app itself — part of an effort to make Samsung Pay “a holistic digital wallet that extends beyond debit and credit cards,” according to a statement from the company.
Samsung is celebrating these successes with special giveaways today. The company says it will give out Gear S2 smartwatches to 365 “lucky winners” on social media, part of a larger, $100,000 giveaway in prizes for Samsung Pay’s birthday bash.
