Vivo X6 and X6 Plus Use FPC Biometrics Tech

April 1, 2016

China-based smartphone maker Vivo has launched upgraded versions of its X6 and X6 Plus smartphones, and the devices once again feature technology from Fingerprint Cards (FPC) and Precise Biometrics. The new X6S and X6S Plus devices each feature an FPC1035 sensor running on Precise BioMatch Mobile biometric algorithm software.

New Vivo Integrations Hints at Lucrative Trend for FPC, Precise BiometricsIt’s the same setup that was used in the original X6 and X6 Plus devices, which only launched last year in late autumn. Moreover, the Vivo Xplay 5, a smartphone launched about a month ago, also features an FPC1035 running Precise BioMatch Mobile; evidently the company is happy with the biometric scanning capabilities of this technology.

News of the latest integrations comes in the same week that it was announced that Xiaomi’s new Redmi device also features FPC and Precise Biometrics technology; in that case too, the same setup was used in the original Redmi Note 3, which came out last autumn, and the new Redmi 3 – Enhanced edition. It hints at a trend that could be a real boon to FPC and Precise Biometrics: As more smartphone makers adopt an iterative approach to smartphone releases, quickly launching modestly improved devices, they’re likely to return to the same biometric technology used in their original models.

Given FPC and Precise Biometrics’ prominence in providing such technology to a range of smartphone OEMs, that could mean strong and continued partnerships and much more licensing revenues to come.
