Australia’s ConnectID digital identity service has partnered with RentBetter, marking another sign of the growing importance of digital ID technology in the country.
RentBetter is an Australian company that provides a platform for property owners to find tenants and manage their rental properties themselves. It offers a comprehensive solution for advertising properties, securing leases, managing tenancy relationships, tracking payments and expenses, and maintaining properties, including organizing repairs and routine inspections.
The platform aims to save property owners money by avoiding traditional property management fees, give them more control over their properties, and simplify the management process with digital tools and automated reminders
ConnectID is an initiative launched by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), Australia’s integrated domestic payments organization. Formed in 2022 by merging BPAY Group, eftpos, and NPP Australia, the organization’s aim is to innovate and enhance the payments ecosystem for businesses, governments, and consumers across Australia.
AP+ launched ConnectID in October of last year. The digital identity solution is designed to protect Australians from fraud and identity theft by enabling secure identity verification without the need for sharing personal documents. It acts as a secure bridge between organizations that need to verify an individual’s identity and those that provide the verification, such as banks, ensuring the process occurs only with the customer’s authorization.
Its integration into the RentBetter platform will give both tenants and landlords more control over the sensitive information they share, as well as more certainty about who they’re dealing with.
“The oversharing of sensitive data during the rental process is all too common, but storing and securing personal data can be costly, particularly for smaller agencies, and in the event of a breach, devastating,” explained Andrew Black, the Managing Director of ConnectID at AP+. “That’s why Digital ID is so exciting for the industry, not only can we start addressing these growing privacy and security challenges, it can be done in a way that helps raise tenant trust but also be a solution that businesses of any size can adopt.”
