Azerbaijan’s leading mobile operator, Azercell, has expanded the acceptance of digital ID cards across all authorized dealer stores and exclusive offices, allowing customers to conduct transactions using digital ID codes via the “myGov” app.
This initiative is part of a larger push toward digital transformation in the country, facilitated by the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA), ensuring secure and efficient services while upholding strong data privacy standards.
The expansion aligns with a July 2024 presidential decree aimed at integrating digital identity solutions across both public and private sectors. Azercell first began accepting digital IDs in early September 2024, and the move to extend the service across all stores reflects the country’s growing commitment to digital innovation.
The “myGov” platform provides citizens with access to a variety of services, ranging from personal data management to essential documents, with over 450 e-services available through the portal.
Shahin Aliyev, Deputy Chairman of the IDDA, emphasized the importance of digital IDs at a recent presentation of the updated MyGov platform, noting the risks associated with traditional ID card copying and the need for secure alternatives to protect personal data. By August 2024, 65 percent of Azerbaijan’s population was using digital IDs, marking significant progress in the country’s digital transformation journey.
The IDDA is also focused on attracting startups and technology companies to further drive innovation in the digital identity space, creating a strong foundation for future growth in Azerbaijan’s digital ecosystem.
