Bank Card Test Center Clears FPC T2 Biometric Fingerprint Sensor for Chinese Market

November 27, 2020

“Our research has showed that there is a strong appetite for biometric payment cards among Chinese consumers, and this is a significant step for us on the road to enable secure and convenient payments for consumers around the world.” – Michel Roig, SVP Business Line Payments & Access, Fingerprint Cards

Biometrics News -Bank Card Test Center Clears FPC T2 Biometric Fingerprint Sensor for Chinese Market

Fingerprint Cards’ (FPC) T2 fingerprint sensor module meets the security and accuracy expectations of the Chinese market. The T2 is the second-generation version of the company’s flagship T-Shape sensor module, and is now ready for deployment after completing the Bank Card Test Center’s (BCTC) rigorous testing process.

The BCTC is an accredited third-party tester that evaluates payment solutions to make sure they live up to China UnionPay’s strict security and accuracy standards. Those standards are detailed in the organization’s Fingerprint Identification Card Technical Guide, which was designed to protect the interests of banks, card manufacturers, and individual consumers.

In addition to the T2 sensor, the BCTC also tested the latest version of the FPC-BEP payments software platform. FPC is hoping that the sensor-software combination will appeal to financial institutions and kickstart the biometric payments ecosystem in China.

“We are pleased to have passed this important performance test for our new sensor solution, making it easier for card manufacturers in China to integrate our solution as we approach wider commercial roll-outs of biometric payment cards,” said FPC Payments and Access SVP Michel Roig. “Our research has showed that there is a strong appetite for biometric payment cards among Chinese consumers, and this is a significant step for us on the road to enable secure and convenient payments for consumers around the world.”

The original T-Shape sensor debuted in 2017, and completed BCTC testing in January. The sensor is designed specifically for card integrations, though FPC has also released a new side-mounted sensor for borderless smartphones.
