Financial services institution BBVA Compass has announced an upgrade to its mobile app. In addition to allowing customers to now check routing, account numbers and an up-to-date running balance, the app also now features Touch ID login.
That means BBVA Compass mobile app users can now scan their fingers on mobile Apple devices to access their account information, a major upgrade to the user experience. In a statement, BBVA Compass Head of UX Design and Director of Mobile and Online Banking Alex Carriles suggested the Touch ID integration was part of a broader effort to provide “a seamless, secure experience across all of our channels.” He added that in addition to other mobile app enhancements rolled out over recent months, “biometric authentication will no doubt lead to even better overall interactions with users.”
It’s the same rationale used by so many other financial institutions that have integrated Touch ID login for their own mobile apps, with People’s United Bank and Bank of America being a couple of other notable recent additions to the Touch ID login roster. It’s part of a much larger trend that has seen the financial industry increasingly interested in biometric authentication technologies for a range of applications.
