Latvia’s MyVoice (aka ManaBalss.lv) is implementing iDenfy’s identity verification technology to make the democratic process more inclusive. First launched in 2011, MyVoice is designed to give Latvian civilians a way to advocate for policy changes on a national scale.
In the past, MyVoice users needed to work with Latvia’s iBanks to verify their identities and receive authorization. iDenfy will allow MyVoice to verify the identities of Latvian citizens who do not have access to the country’s digital identification infrastructure, which will in turn make the platform more accessible and responsive to the public. It will also ensure that Latvian citizens are the only ones with access to the platform, even when they are out of the country.
MyVoice currently runs two civic engagement platforms, dubbed ParvaiPret.lv and Lemejs.lv. Latvians can use the platforms to submit policy initiatives to the Latvian parliament, which is known as the Saeima. Residents have proposed 62 such initiatives since 2011, of which 36 were passed into law following a more thorough legislative review.
“The partnership with iDenfy enhances the effectiveness of MyVoice and scales it cross-borders,” said MyVoice CEO Imants Breidaks. “We hope that this precedent will encourage the development of digital participation in policy-making processes internationally.”
“We’re confident that our identity verification solution will make their way easier to persuade the general public to promote their initiatives in the national parliament of Latvia,” added iDenfy CEO Domantas Ciulde. “Our powerful remote identity verification solution will enable this non-profit public NGO to verify and authorise legitimate Latvians scattered across the globe who want to be part of this initiative.”
iDenfy is compliant with the latest Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering regulations, and uses face and document recognition to verify customer identities. The company has provided biometric onboarding services for several customers in the past few months, adding MyVoice to a client roster that already includes DSBC Financial, PanPay, and the hiring platform TalentClouds.
