Ottawa-based digital identity and access management company Bluink has announced the launch of its eID-Me program in Quebec, allowing residents of the province to store a digital copy of their driver’s license on their iOS or Android-powered smartphone.
The addition of Quebec to the eID-Me app comes via an update that has already been pushed out to the Android version and should be reaching iOS users in the near future. The app allows users to store a growing number of government-issued IDs on their smartphone in encrypted formats and behind a layer of biometric authentication — for example, Touch ID or Face ID for iOS users — for extra security.
In an emailed statement to tech news site iPhone in Canada, Bluink CEO Steve Borza commented that “Bluink’s mission is to empower Canadian citizens, governments and enterprises to interact securely by making access to trusted digital identities a reality.”
Bluink launched its app last month in Ontario, and with the addition of Quebec the list of supported IDs now includes: Canadian Passport, Ontario Photo Card, Ontario Driver’s License, Ontario Health Card, Ontario Enhanced Driver’s License, Quebec Driver’s License.
In order to register for an eID-Me digital license, users in Ontario and Quebec require a valid Canadian Passport and driver’s license or photo card, and a residential address that matches the one listed on their provincial ID.
