A digital ID wallet is being developed for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an expected launch by mid-2025. Led by the Croatian tech startup Identity Consortium, the project is part of the ‘EU4DigitalSME’ initiative aimed at modernizing identification processes through secure electronic identification, authentication, and digital document signing.
EU4DigitalSME focuses on supporting the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Funded by the European Union and supported by the German government, the program seeks to enhance competitiveness and integration into the broader European digital economy by modernizing digital infrastructure and services.
The digital ID wallet will be developed under the Identyum brand in collaboration with Adverta Pro, providing both a backend system and a mobile application. This platform will enable Bosnian citizens to access public and private services using their digital identity, aligning with European regulations and facilitating Bosnia’s integration into the EU digital ecosystem.
Key functionalities of the wallet include electronic identification and authentication, allowing users to securely access various services. It will also support digital document signing, improving the efficiency of transactions that require official approvals. Additionally, the wallet is expected to store and manage credentials such as identity documents, driver’s licenses, and educational certificates. This aims to empower users to control their personal data and share it securely with authorized entities, streamlining interactions with government services like tax filing, social security access, and applications for official documents.
The design includes integration with the European digital ecosystem, potentially providing Bosnian citizens access to services typically available in EU countries. Future applications may extend to travel documentation, healthcare management, and financial services such as opening bank accounts or making payments.
This development follows the German government’s recent announcement of plans to create its own European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, which will allow citizens to store identity data and official documents on their smartphones.
