Another car manufacturer is partnering with Cerence to provide drivers with a comprehensive voice assistant. VinFast is one of the leading automakers in Vietnam, and will be integrating Cerence’s smart voice technology into a new line of smart electric vehicles for the global market.
To that end, the new VinFast voice assistant will offer support for six languages, including English, Spanish, German, Dutch, and French (both as it is spoken in France and as it is spoken in Canada). The platform can be activated with a simple “Hey VinFast,” and is smart enough to pick up contextual cues in the middle of a conversation. For example, the platform could increase the temperature in the car if the driver says that they are cold.
The complete assistant takes advantage of the full Cerence technology portfolio, and offers text-to-speech and natural language generation in addition to speech recognition and natural language understanding. The system supports phone calls and messaging applications, and allows drivers to use simple voice commands to control other aspects of the in-car experience. Most notably, drivers can use their voice to tap into the navigation and driver assist systems, and to check on the status of warning lights or other vehicle gauges. They can also access the infotainment system for updates on weather, news, or local attractions.
“We decided to partner with Cerence with the aim of creating an intelligent, AI-powered human-machine interface for each and every VinFast car, providing an innovative user experience,” said VinFast Deputy CEO Pham Thuy Linh. “We want to offer not only the best intelligent mobility experience but also a helpful and friendly ‘companion’ for drivers.”
The VinFast assistant combines embedded technologies with other services that have access to the cloud. Cerence has now delivered voice assistants for multiple automakers all over the world, with a client roster that includes Wuling, Hyundai, and Beijing Electric Vehicle.
