CLEAR is launching a new Come Back Better initiative to encourage more establishments to embrace digital vaccine cards. The initiative will place a particular focus on the restaurant, culture, and entertainment sectors, and leverage some of CLEAR’s existing partnerships to highlight the business and public safety benefits of vaccine credentials.
The goal is to stop the spread of COVID-19 and facilitate the safe return to public life. To that end, CLEAR has released a Health Pass and a Digital Vaccine Card to make it easier for people to share their health status at different venues. Both solutions bind the user’s identity to their health record, and allow them to access and share those records through their smartphone. The Health Pass app supports both vaccine records and COVID-19 test results, but is only valid at participating locations. The Digital Vaccine Card, on the other hand, can be presented in lieu of a physical card at any venue that requests proof of vaccination at entry.
The Health Pass debuted in May of 2020. Two million records have been created in the intervening months, while CLEAR itself has partnered with more than 130 organizations all over the country. That list includes sports teams like the Golden State Warriors, as well as cultural institutions like the Lincoln Center and the Public Theater in New York. CLEAR has also partnered with OpenTable to let diners know that they will need to present proof of vaccination at participating restaurants before they make a reservation.
“While we don’t know when this pandemic will finally end, we do know that we cannot again shut down large portions of our economy, shuttering businesses and keeping numbers of people squirreled away at home,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “That is why CLEAR developed these digital vaccine solutions – so that we can come back better, safer and seamlessly.”
CLEAR has donated Health Pass access to the Council of Fashion Designers of America to enable screening at runway shows during New York Fashion Week. The NBA is also using the technology to make the fan experience safer for all 30 teams.
