CLEAR Prepares New ‘High Assurance Mobile Enrollment’ Solution

November 10, 2021

“Safety and security is in our DNA at CLEAR, and we’ve spent the past decade building a brand that stands for trust.” – Caryn Seidman-Becker, CEO, CLEAR

CLEAR Prepares New 'High Assurance Mobile Enrollment' Solution

CLEAR appears to be cooking up a big new identity verification offering, and has achieved an important certification on its path to commercialization. The company has revealed that a new “High Assurance Mobile Enrollment” solution has been approved by the Kantara Initiative as a Component Service.

The Kantara Initiative is an industry alliance whose goal is to establish and promote standards and best practices for digital identity and privacy. Its board members include major names such as Microsoft and IDEMIA.

Kantara’s certification confirms compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SP 800-63 rev.3 Class of Approval at Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2). For CLEAR, this will help the company to assure its partners and customers of its new solution’s privacy protections.

“Safety and security is in our DNA at CLEAR, and we’ve spent the past decade building a brand that stands for trust,” explained CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “When a user trusts us with their information, they know it is protected by CLEAR’s comprehensive security program which now includes Kantara’s IAL2 certification – giving our partners and members greater peace of mind.”

As for the “High Assurance Mobile Enrollment” solution that received the certification, CLEAR has so far offered only a few intriguing details.

In its announcement, the company framed the new solution as part of its expansion beyond passenger screening at airports – an effort that is most clearly illustrated in CLEAR’s deployments for large-scale venue access, though it’s also evident in CLEAR’s development of a Health Pass mobile app designed to let users confirm their COVID-19 test results and vaccination records.

The “new enrollment process”, meanwhile, will offer a range of use cases, including “age validation for restricted products, biometric payments, and third party account creation and access,” the company explained. These details, together with the name of the solution, suggest that CLEAR’s new solution may ride the momentum of the selfie-based onboarding and mobile ID trends; in any case, further details are surely in the pipeline.
