Cox Communications has partnered with Phunware to streamline hospital operations for its healthcare customers. To that end, Cox’s business division has integrated Phunware’s Digital Front Door platform into its own Cox Prosight solution, which debuted at HIMSS21.
The Prosight solution is a smart hospital management platform with a slew of administrative capabilities, including asset tracking and inventory management. The platform can also alert staff to events that require immediate attention, covering everything from basic cleanups to healthcare emergencies and temperature fluctuations in controlled environments like freezers and operating rooms.
Phunware’s Digital Front Door, on the other hand, is a Multiscreen-as-a-Service cloud platform that consolidates a number of different functions in one centralized location. The solution is compatible with third-party vendors, and allows patients and clinical staff to access key features from a mobile device.
Those features include mobile notifications and appointment reminders, and location services for hospitals and other large venues. The latter is realized with a blue dot that shows the user’s position in a building in real time, and ensures that patients and guests can get around without needing to interrupt staff to ask for directions.
The Phunware platform will also enable mobile bill payments, e-visits, and assist with prescription management. It is integrated with the Epic MyChart system, and supports biometric authentication for those accessing the platform with Face ID. Organizations can deploy the platform across multiple locations, and can gather data for analytic purposes.
“By collaborating with Phunware and leveraging their proven mobile software, we will be able to better support patient experiences and outcomes, drive cost savings and more efficiently coordinate facility resources,” said Cox New Growth and Development Executive Director George Valentine.
“Cox understands the importance of data, connectivity and scalability in the continuum of care,” added Phunware COO Randall Crowder. “We live in a mobile-first world that is quickly becoming mobile-only, so it’s imperative that healthcare organizations adopt comprehensive technologies like the Cox Prosight to meet the demands of the modern healthcare landscape.”
Phunware previously collaborated with HID Global to build a wayfinding app for hospital environments. HID Global would later receive a Tech Innovation Award for delivering a contact tracing solution that uses similar location services technology.
