“We encourage you to test the system for yourself by trying to restore your account with a picture or video of your face. It will fail, and you can rest assured those pictures of you on Facebook won’t unlock your ZenGo account.” – Tal Be’ery, Co-Founder, ZenGo
A new cryptocurrency wallet called ZenGo has become the latest platform to take advantage of biometric security from FaceTec.
As detailed in a new Medium post by ZenGo co-founder Tal Be’ery, ZenGo has opted to entirely forego password-based authentication on its eponymous app. Instead, it uses on-device biometric authentication in the form of fingerprint and facial recognition – solutions that offer more powerful safeguards against identity theft attacks.
But, as Be’ery says, these authentication mechanisms aren’t enough when the user’s device is lost or stolen. So that’s why ZenGo has embraced FaceTec’s ZoOm authentication solution for account recovery.
“FaceTec’s solution is in production on 5 continents, and was designed, tested at scale, and certified to withstand the kinds of spoofing and masquerading attacks that biometric authenticators see in the wild by validating the three-dimensional liveness of the user,” Be’ery explains, alluding to ZoOm’s trailblazing success in iBETA’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluations and its certifications from standards bodies like the FIDO Alliance.
“We encourage you to test the system for yourself by trying to restore your account with a picture or video of your face,” Be’ery goes on. “It will fail, and you can rest assured those pictures of you on Facebook won’t unlock your ZenGo account.”
The post goes on to highlight ZoOm’s and ZenGo’s strong privacy protection, noting that all visual data used in authentication is processed within ZenGo’s servers, and that all data processed through ZoOm is encrypted and unreadable by the ZenGo app.
It’s all makes for a pretty strong case for FaceTec’s pioneering selfie authentication solution – and for the ZenGo wallet, so far as security-conscious cryptocurrency users are concerned.
