Blockchain-based smart ring startup CUDIS has integrated the World App, enabling users to verify and secure their biometric data through World ID, a digital identity system that uses iris scans to confirm a person’s uniqueness. The integration aims to bolster privacy and security, allowing users to manage their biometric data onchain using the decentralized InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).
The CUDIS smart ring, similar to the Oura ring, interacts with decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN), which consist of distributed systems like sensors and devices not controlled by any single entity. The ring tracks health metrics like heart rate and sleep patterns, while rewarding users for engaging with features like their AI fitness coach.
World ID is part of the World Network (formerly Worldcoin), a project designed to combat digital identity threats such as deepfakes by ensuring individuals can verify their identity securely. Co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alex Blania, the system provides users with a digital passport that confirms their identity while preserving privacy, thanks to the secure storage of biometric data on a decentralized blockchain.
Users are rewarded with WRD tokens for submitting their biometric data, promoting engagement with the platform.
CUDIS is also releasing a limited edition smart ring specifically for World ID holders. CEO Edison Chen emphasized that encrypting biometric data with private keys ensures transparency and trust, with blockchain technology providing an immutable and secure record. The company, which has sold 10,000 smart rings since May, is preparing to airdrop a Solana-based token by the end of the year.
CUDIS has also introduced an NFT series called Edamame and raised $5 million in seed funding led by Draper Associates, with partners such as Saga DAO and Helium Mobile.
