ECU Supplier Partnership Gets WISeKey Connected Car Traction in China Market

ECU Supplier Partnership Gets WISeKey Connected Car Traction in China Market

Technology from Geneva-based WISeKey is poised to play a role in China’s growing connected car industry thanks to a new partnership with SINCODE, an automotive Engine Control Unit supplier based in the country.

The partnership will revolve around WISeKey’s ISTANA platform, which is aimed at delivering certificate-based security to car makers. The technology uses digital certificates to authenticate different car components, allowing for greater security in connected car communications and software updates.

In a statement announcing the SINCODE partnership, WISeKey noted that it is already “working with several smart car manufacturers” and asserted that its ISTANA solution had delivered revenues of CHF 7 million, or about $7.1 million, last year. “WISeKey’s total identifiable 5-year ISTANA revenues from the car manufacturing industry are expected to be in excess of CHF 30 Million,” the company asserted.

WISeKey also asserted that China’s connected car market in particular will grow by just over 50 percent per year, though it did not detail the timeline for this growth.

News of the partnership comes after WISeKey’s announcement last October that it had established a ‘Universal Decentralized Identification‘ platform based on biometric authentication and blockchain-based digital IDs.
