The FIDO Alliance is hosting its inaugural Authenticate conference this week, and has taken the opportunity to announce a new certification program for authentication professionals.
The aptly named FIDO Certified Professional Program will be designed to assess and validate a security professional’s skills and expertise with respect to FIDO’s own authentication standards, and the cross-industry alliance says it will give participants additional skills and technical knowledge to help organizations establish the kind of security architecture that incorporates strong online authentication.
As for who should participate in the FIDO Certified Professional Program, the Alliance is aiming broadly. In announcing the program the organization said it would be appropriate for engineers, technology architects, and security and IAM professionals, among others.
In its announcement, FIDO framed the program as one of multiple certification programs offered by the Alliance, such as its certification program for compliance with its FIDO2 authentication standard and its Biometric Component Certification program launched in 2018.
“Establishing and sharing industry best practices is at the heart of FIDO Alliance’s mission to reduce the world’s reliance on passwords in favor of modern, possession-based approaches to user authentication,” explained FIDO’s Executive Director and CMO, Andrew Shikiar. “The FIDO Certified Professional Program builds upon our deep expertise in running industry-driven certification efforts and stands to raise the bar and authentication implementation capabilities of developers, architects and other professionals around the world.”
FIDO Alliance Certification Director Dr. Rae Rivera added that helping to educate and certify more authentication professionals will help to propagate FIDO’s authentication best practices more broadly. “Growing the global pool of authentication experts with this certified program is key to guiding more companies quickly and confidently in the right direction, while ensuring talented professionals have a means to demonstrate their market expertise,” she said.
The FIDO Alliance has not yet set a launch date for its FIDO Certified Professional Program, but is welcoming those interested to sign up to a dedicated mailing list that will send further information when a date has been set.
