Financial services and payments are the key themes in this week’s roundup of Mobile ID World’s top stories. But there’s also a bit of digital ID and SSO security news, too.
Let’s start with one of the biggest stories of the week – Mastercard’s acquisition of Ekata. The latter specializes in using machine learning and analytics to enable customer verification and fight fraud; as such, it should fit right in with a long-term Mastercard effort to improve trust in e-commerce. Mastercard paid $850 million for the acquisition, which was announced on the heels of Ekata’s launch of its Merchant Onboarding solution:

This week also brought news concerning wearable payments technology. Fidesmo, a Swedish company that specializes in this kind of tech, announced that it had entered into a partnership with Länsförsäkringar Bank that will enable the latter’s customers to make contactless payments using devices like smart bracelets, key rings, and other wearables:

Meanwhile, Sacramento-based One recently found a customer onboarding solution for its digital banking platform. The firm is going with Onfido’s selfie onboarding system, which uses facial recognition to match end user’s to their official identity documents. It will help to automate One’s KYC process and will offer considerable convenience for end users:

Pivoting away from banking and payments, this week also brought some digital ID news from the United Arab Emirates. The Smart Dubai City Office has authorized Lleida.net as its UAE Pass Service Provider. That means UAE residents will be able to use Leida.net’s services to perform e-signature and e-contracting activities via their UAE Pass national IDs:

And finally, Okta got some attention this week thanks to its upgrade of its Okta End User Dashboard, a Single Sign-On solution that allows end users to access apps without the need to remember passwords for each one. The Dashboard is now 50 percent faster, and features an improved User Interface:
