Forthcoming Notebook PCs To Feature Synaptics Biometrics

July 11, 2018

“The technology is being used together with Windows Hello, the biometric authentication platform built into the Windows 10 operating system.”

Forthcoming Notebook PCs To Feature Synaptics BiometricsSynaptics has teamed up with US-based chip maker AMD to deliver biometric security to computer products.

More specifically, forthcoming notebook PCs based on the AMD Ryzen Mobile platform will integrate fingerprint sensors from Synaptics – the FS7600 Match-in-Sensor solution, which is designed to scan and match a user’s fingerprint on a single chip. The technology is being used together with Windows Hello, the biometric authentication platform built into the Windows 10 operating system.

In a statement announcing the collaboration, AMD Client Compute Business Unit head Saeid Moshkelani emphasized the need for more sophisticated security on computer devices, calling it “a top priority” for AMD. “As part of our ongoing commitment, hardened biometric security is a critical requirement for our next-generation Ryzen Mobile platforms,” he said.

AMD’s Ryzen processor technology has been used in computer products from major names including Dell and Acer. The companies say that the forthcoming notebook PCs based on Ryzen Mobile and Synaptics’ sensor solution will be targeted at both the enterprise and consumer markets.
