China-based electronics wholesaler Arrow Electronics has launched an Internet of Things app design contest, and Fingerprint Cards has announced that it’s sponsoring the effort.
Arrow has put the contest together in collaboration with IBM and IndieGoGo, with participants eligible to win up to $10,000 in prize money, in addition to promotional support from IndieGoGo. Other sponsors include NXP Semiconductors and Micro Commercial Components.
In a statement announcing its support for the contest, FPC characterized it as aiming “to motivate engineers and developers to design IoT applications for the future.” FPC also emphasized the important role that biometric authentication is expected to play in many IoT devices.
The sponsorship announcement comes soon after FPC partnered with Arrow Electronics at the end of May. At the time, SVP Ted Hansson suggested that the partnership offered new inroads into the mobile, automotive, security, and IoT industries.
