“The company also indicated that the FPC1272 is designed exclusively for integration under glass or a ceramic layer.”
Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has announced multiple new smartphone integrations of its fingerprint sensor technology.
Two are with repeat client OPPO, whose new R11s and R11s Plus smartphones each feature an FPC1035 sensor model. As with the OPPO F5 integration announced last month, which also employed the FPC1035, the latest deployments are on the rear of each phone, allowing for a full-size display.
Meanwhile, another OEM is including the FPC1155 and FPC1272 sensor models in its new devices. In a statement, FPC declined to name the client in question, referring to it as “a major Taiwanese OEM”. The company also indicated that the FPC1272 is designed exclusively for integration under glass or a ceramic layer.
That may point to future in-display fingerprint sensor deployments, with FPC having announced this week that it has developed viable technology for such integrations, making it one of a small group of pioneers that has achieved this technological breakthrough. But for now the FPC1272 is presumably being implemented in a bezel or on the rear or side of this new device.
