FPC Sensors Now Used in 400 Smartphone Models

FPC Sensors Now Used in 400 Smartphone Models

Even as it continues to expand beyond fingerprint biometrics, Sweden-based Fingerprint Cards is celebrating a major milestone in its smartphone fingerprint sensor business. The company has announced that its sensors are now being used in 400 different smartphone models.

In a statement, Fingerprint Cards’ mobile business VP Ted Hansson gestured to the company’s status as one of the major pioneers of the mobile biometrics revolution that has unfolded over the last several years. “This is both a significant milestone for Fingerprints and a marker for the biometrics industry, showing how far we have come in a short time,” he said. “Because of our continuous investment into R&D to bring a range of design options for the mobile OEMs and maximize performance, our capacitive fingerprint sensors continue to gain momentum in the smartphone market.”

Fingerprint Cards arrives at this milestone after launching a new “ticker” feature on its website at the end of summer in order to offer a running tally of recent smartphone integrations of its fingerprint sensor solutions. Shortly after that, the company announced that it had seen its first integration into a Samsung smartphone, marking another important milestone for the company.

Earlier this year, FPC announced that it had shipped over a billion fingerprint sensors in total. The company says its sensors are being used n the top five Android-based smartphone brands.

While Fingerprint Cards continues to place a strong focus on fingerprint sensors and their mobile applications, it has also been delving into applications in smart cards and payment cards, and it recently announced a touchless authentication platform based on facial and iris recognition, which offers a number of applications in the mobile, access control, payments, and automotive sectors.
