FPC’s Latest Integration Milestone Shows ‘Accelerated Demand’ for Mobile Biometrics

March 28, 2022

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has passed another major commercial milestone. The company revealed that its fingerprint recognition technology has now been featured in more than 600 different smartphone models all over the world.

FPC's Latest Integration Milestone Shows 'Accelerated Demand' for Mobile Biometrics

According to FPC, that figure speaks to the strength of the mobile biometrics market, and the rising demand for fingerprint solutions in consumer handsets. The company cleared the 600 device threshold just over a year after crossing the 500 mark, which it did in January of 2021. That means that FPC added another 100 devices in roughly the same amount of time that it needed to stack the previous 100, since it broke the 400 device barrier in November of 2019.

That suggests that the mobile biometrics market is growing at a steady rate, and that there will plenty of interest in devices with fingerprint sensors moving forward. That obviously bodes well for FPC, which recently placed one of its curved fingerprint sensors in the Redmi K50 handset from Xiaomi.

“We have witnessed accelerated demand for biometrics in smartphones over recent years,” said FPC Mobile, PC, and Access China President Ted Hansson. “Biometrics are now the natural choice for manufacturers seeking to increase security and convenience for the whole world of mobile phone users. To see Fingerprints’ sensors in 600 different smartphone models is proof that our products are trusted globally and are paving the way for biometrics’ use across a range of other industries, improving the ease and security of our daily lives.”

While the mobile market remains a top priority for FPC, the company has taken steps to diversify its portfolio in the past few years. Fingerprints is particularly interested in the PC market, and believes that more than two-thirds of PCs will come with a fingerprint sensor by 2026. The company made its way onto Microsoft’s approved vendor list earlier this month.
