Gentex Shows Off Connected Car, Biometric Tech at CES 2019

Gentex Shows Off Connected Car, Biometric Tech at CES 2019

Gentex is once again showcasing cutting-edge connected car technologies at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

Among its new offerings is HomeLink Connect, a mobile app that’s designed to pair with a given vehicle, and to thereby enable the user to remotely interact with connected devices at home through the car’s embedded touchscreen, or even through a Bluetooth-enabled rearview mirror. Meanwhile, an ‘Integrated Toll Module’ is designed to act as a multi-protocol transponder tag for national toll roads, allowing drivers to easily access such roads without the need to acquire physical tags that can clutter a windshield.

Gentex will also once again showcase a biometric driver identification system. Based on iris recognition, the system is designed to be embedded into a mirror, and to automatically identify a driver with just a glance. The car’s interior settings can then be adjusted as per the driver’s personal preferences, and to enable access to cloud-based services.

It’s the same concept showcased at last year’s CES, just ahead of Gentex’s formal announcement of a partnership with biometrics specialist Fingerprint Cards that would be focused on automotive solutions. And with biometrics seeing growing interest in smart and connected cars, it could raise more eyebrows than ever.

CES 2019 runs from January 8th to 11th in Las Vegas, with Gentex also showcasing dimmable glass technology and a new smart rearview mirror system from the show floor.
