“…with numerous major companies aggressively exploring 5G technologies, Huawei’s dominance of this field in MWC 2018’s Global Mobile Awards (or ‘GLOMOs’) may spur its rivals to double their efforts in the race ahead.”
The GSMA has announced its award winners for this year’s Mobile World Congress, and the results in a number of categories point to the rapid ascent of 5G technology, with Huawei leading the charge.
In the category of Best Mobile Network Infrastructure, Huawei’s 5G Ready Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) Radio Family took the prize, while Huawei’s 5G Ready CloudAIR Solution was a joint winner in the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough category. Best Network Software Breakthrough also went to Huawei, for its 5G Core Solution, and the company’s 5G Ready CloudAIR Solution won for Outstanding Mobile Technology – The CTOs’ Choice, as well. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Huawei also won for Outstanding Contribution to the Mobile Industry.
Huawei’s achievements won’t have come as a huge surprise to everyone, given the company’s activities in the area of 5G, with Huawei having worked with Canadian telecom Telus last year to test out 5G network technology based on 3GPP standards. But with numerous major companies aggressively exploring 5G technologies, Huawei’s dominance of this field in MWC 2018’s Global Mobile Awards (or ‘GLOMOs’) may spur its rivals to double their efforts in the race ahead.
Meanwhile, in the category of Best Mobile Authentication & Security Solution, for which Mobile ID World editor Peter Counter was a judge, the Evolved Intelligence for Signalling Firewall rose above its competition. Other notable GLOMO winners include Samsung Pay for Best Mobile Innovation for Payment, and the iPhone X for Best Smartphone 2017.
