Google rolled out new devices and applications for its Google Assistant at the recent CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Assistant is currently already available on more than 400 million devices, and the company plans on integrating the assistant into many facets of everyday life.
The company announced a litany of newly supported home devices – voice activated speakers, smart displays, and applications with Sony’s Android and LG TVs. Google Assistant continues to add to the smart home with home control brands that offer various applications from changing the heat, checking the laundry, and even remotely checking if the doors are locked.
Also announced were new headphone applications from Jaybird, JBL, LG and Sony, as well as integrations with car companies like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Hyunda, allowing drivers to play music, activate navigation apps, check fuel levels, and even pre-order that caramel macchiato from Starbucks when on the road.
With all of this expansion, Google has given a name to all of the Assistant’s potential uses. Simply named “Actions”, the features make up a long list of what the Google Assistant can do as it continues to slip into the various facets of everyday life – like the “Talk To Dad” Action where you can simply ask your Google Assistant to “Talk To Dad” and get your required dad jokes whether your at home, at the gym, or in your car.
Along with other voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, Google Assistant’s competitive bid to be the right robot for you is part of a ever-changing landscape with AI is changing our relationship with the world.
