“The French launch of Google Pay also comes after a major extension of its support in the US, with Google announcing in late summer that 111 additional banks and credit unions were supporting the platform.”
Google’s mobile payments platform has finally arrived in France, long after its major rivals.
Six banks and credit card companies – Boon, Boursorama Banque, Edenred France, Lydia, N26, and Revolut – are supporting Google Pay at its launch in the country, meaning cardholders with those firms can upload their cards to Google’s mobile wallet. Mastercard and Visa credit cards are supported.
Google Pay is late to the party in France. Samsung Pay launched in the country this past spring, and Apple Pay made its début in the country way back in the summer of 2016. Still, Google Pay at least arrives with the partnership of multiple online retailers including Asos, Deliveroo, Flixbus, and Ryanair.
The French launch of Google Pay also comes after a major extension of its support in the US, with Google announcing in late summer that 111 additional banks and credit unions were supporting the platform. Google Pay was also upgraded to support peer-to-peer payments as well as virtual concert tickets and boarding passes this past summer, functionality that could help to heighten its appeal to new customers in France and elsewhere.
