This year’s Mobile World Congress is fast approaching, and accordingly the GSMA has named the nominees for its Global Mobile Awards, or GLOMO Awards.
As always, technological innovation is the through line across a wide-ranging gamut of categories and nominated solutions. And as usual, some big names are in the mix: In the category of “Best Smartphone”, for example, Apple is nominated for its iPhone XS Max, alongside Google for its Pixel 3 and Samsung for its Galaxy Note 9, among others. Another category, the “Disruptive Device Innovation Award”, features Vivo as a competitor (with a nod to Synaptics), for its innovative in-display fingerprint scanner that kicked off this new mobile biometrics trend last year.
Speaking of biometrics, Apple got another nomination, in the category of “Best Overall Mobile Consumer Innovation”, for the fitness-tracking ECG technology built into its Apple Watch. And Nok Nok Labs’ S3 Authentication Suite is nominated in the category of “Best Mobile Authentication & Security Solution”.
There are many, many more, but as GSMA CEO John Hoffman noted in a statement announcing this year’s awards program, the GLOMOs “attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated today is a great achievement.”
The awards will be presented during MWC19, which is slated to run from February 25th to 28th in Barcelona. And Mobile ID World Managing Editor Peter Counter is once again serving as a GLOMO Awards judge.
