HID Global CMS Upgrade Enables Virtual IDs

January 16, 2018

HID Global has upgraded its Credential Management System platform.

HID Global CMS Upgrades Enables Virtual IDs ActivID CMS 5.0 introduces support for virtual smart cards, allowing for digital credentials to be deployed in mobile devices. It also takes advantage of Windows software to enable simplified credential deployment, with cloud-based management capabilities. And ActivID CMS 5.0 is compliant with FIPS 201 standard, including the PIV derived credentials aspect that is so important in federal government ID applications.

In a statement announcing the upgrade, HID Global asserted that virtual smart cards based on a ‘Trusted Platform Module’ “are a secure alternative to smart cards, OTP tokens and other authentication methods.” VP and IAM Solutions Managing Director Brad Jarvis added that in its support for digital IDs, HID Global is “extending the types of applications that can benefit from HID’s identity and access management solutions, namely Windows logon, VPN, document signing, encryption, online resource access and multi-factor authentication”.

News of the upgrade comes on the heels of HID Global’s announcement of a new partnership with ThreatMark. The firms will work together to develop anti-fraud technologies for the financial services sector.
