Honor has unveiled its “Alpha Plan” strategy at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, announcing a $10 billion investment in AI and plans to develop an agentic AI phone that will integrate Google’s Gemini AI models. The announcement represents a major expansion of Honor’s AI capabilities, building upon the company’s previous innovations in biometric authentication and mobile security.
The company’s forthcoming intelligent phone aims to transform human-device interaction by using a mobile AI agent to coordinate tasks on behalf of users, reducing reliance on traditional app-based interfaces. The personal mobile AI agent will leverage context from multiple apps to assist with tasks such as making restaurant reservations while considering calendar appointments and traffic information.
The device will incorporate AI image upscaling capabilities for enhancing old photographs and include AI deepfake detection functionality, which will also be available on flagship models like the Magic 7 Pro. The deepfake detection technology represents a significant advancement in Honor’s security features, following the company’s history of implementing advanced authentication methods in its devices.
Honor has announced MagicOS 9.0, an update for Honor 200 series smartphones that introduces AI-powered tools including AI Translate, AI Notes, and an AI photo editor. The photo editing capabilities include subject extraction, object removal, facial detail restoration, and image expansion beyond original borders.
The Alpha Plan consists of three phases: developing an intelligent phone, expanding industry boundaries for AI ecosystem development, and opening human potential boundaries in the AGI era. Honor is collaborating with Google and Qualcomm on this initiative. “We are working closely to deeply integrate Google’s Gemini AI models into Honor solutions, and create new possibilities for users around the world that were never before possible, while protecting their data security and user privacy,” said Matt Waldbusser, Managing Director of Consumer AI at Google Cloud.
Additional announcements include new devices such as the Honor Earbuds Open, Honor Watch 5 Ultra, and Honor Pad V9, featuring AI translation for real-time interpretation. The company has also introduced a universal file-sharing system enabling transfers between iOS and Android devices, along with extended Android OS and security update support for existing Honor phones. The expansion of Honor’s ecosystem builds upon its established track record in developing secure, AI-enhanced mobile devices and accessories.
