Honor Switches to Goodix-powered In-display Fingerprint Scanning on Latest Smartphone

In-display fingerprint scanning technology has found its way into another new smartphone, this time from the Huawei-owned Honor brand.

The new Honor 20 Lite Youth Edition’s fingerprint sensor comes by way of Goodix, marking a change from the Honor 20 Lite smartphone launched this past summer, which featured the FPC1511 – Fingerprint Cards’ most cost-effective fingerprint sensor. That sensor was mounted on the rear of the device, whereas Goodix’s solution enables users to scan their fingers directly on the Youth Edition’s display.

It’s part of a growing trend, with a number of prominent brands including Samsung having implemented in-display fingerprint sensors in new smartphones over the past year. Goodix, meanwhile, has become an increasingly prominent supplier of this in-display fingerprint sensor technology, with its tech included in recent smartphones from OPPO and Xiaomi, among others.

Other features of the new Honor 20 Lite Youth Edition include a 6.3″ AMOLED display with FullHD+, a Kirin 710F processor, and a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 20W charging. The device has a 16MP front-facing camera, and a three-camera system on the rear including a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.

The smartphone is slated to go on sale in China starting October 25th.
