The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) will be using CLEAR’s Health Pass app to check the vaccine records of patients coming in for care. The service is now live at HSS locations in New York City, and will soon be extended to the rest of New York in addition to HSS clinics in the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, and Florida.
CLEAR Health Pass is a free app that allows users to link health records – including vaccination records – to a secure digital identity. Those individuals can then use the app to show proof of vaccination when entering venues with health screening requirements.
With CLEAR, HSS patients and guests will be able to share their vaccine credentials before they head to the clinic. They will then enjoy a faster (and contactless) check-in process when they arrive. However, patients are free to opt out of the Health Pass program, in which case they will need to complete a manual intake process with a staff member.
HSS is the first hospital in the US to formally offer Health Pass service to the public, and announced the official launch of the program after completing a successful pilot with thousands of participants. Moving forward, HSS and CLEAR indicated that they will continue to work together to provide patients with more personalized care, using technologies that can bridge people’s digital and in-person experiences.
HSS specializes in musculoskeletal health, and is consistently listed as one of the top-ranked orthopedic institutions in the world. The partnership with CLEAR builds on its existing relationships with wearable technology companies and remote care providers.
“This collaboration provides assurance and convenience for our patients,” said HSS President and CEO Louis Shapiro. “This combines our commitment to superior care with a shared vision for digital innovation, data integration, and state-of-the-art technology.”
CLEAR has already provided Health Pass services for hundreds of institutions. The technology has been used at multiple sporting events and at MWC Los Angeles, and to guarantee the health status of people traveling to Hawaii. American Express has also offered free Health Pass service to any restaurants that are part of the Resy hospitality network.
