IBM Security has updated its Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) portfolio to help organizations that are looking to make the transition to the cloud. The SASE solution leverages Zscaler technology, and will allow businesses to implement zero trust security protocols across their entire corporate infrastructure.
According to a recent survey (commissioned by IBM), the vast majority (78 percent) of organizations either plan to, or are interested in deploying SASE technology sometime within the next 12 months. With that in mind, IBM is hoping that the solution will help meet the growing demand for cloud-based technologies, noting that its SASE solution is a comprehensive offering that consolidates a number of key business applications. It is also a customizable solution that can be tailored to meet the specific needs of different entities.
On that front, the SASE can be used to provide secure access for a hybrid remote and on-premises workforce, ensuring that the network remains safe regardless of what device employees use to log in. The same principles can even be applied to third parties, insofar as organizations can set different access privileges for different individuals. That means that SASE can give third-party contractors access to certain corporate materials while still restricting their access to materials and applications that should only be visible to internal employees.
The SASE is expected to be particularly beneficial for organizations with a large number of 5G and IoT connections. IBM also suggested that it can help streamline the integration process in the case of a merger or an acquisition. Taken together, all of the SASE technologies should help reduce costs and improve performance for businesses with a cloud network.
“Traditional approaches to network security are not as viable in a digital world where users and applications are distributed,” said IBM Security GM Mary O’Brien. “This new approach requires a shift in culture, processes and collaboration across teams alongside a new technology architecture. Our zero trust approach can help accelerate this transformation.”
Forrester listed IBM security as one of the industry leaders in Customer Identity and Access Management at the tail end of 2020. MarketsandMarkets has predicted that the market for mobile cloud-based backend technologies will reach $5.9 billion by 2025.
