ID TECH Announces Apple Pay Compatibility

Apple PayPayment solutions provider ID TECH has announced that its’ POS NFC devices are now compatible with Apple’s nascent wireless iPhone payment technology. In a press release, ID TECH’s COO, Eric Lecesne, was keen to underline the company’s longstanding place in the field: “ID TECH with the ViVOpay products has been at the forefront of the NFC adoption since its beginning,” he said, adding that with the introduction of Apple Pay, “ID TECH’s long term commitment to NFC has been validated once again.”

ID TECH’s enthusiasm for Apple Pay underscores the market’s seeming readiness for widespread adoption of the technology. With Apple Pay now available to third-party developers, many Apple partners are now scrambling to integrate the technology into their apps, while retailers are keen to get compatible NFC readers installed at their POS terminals. It’s a ripe market for providers of such hardware.

Of course, Apple isn’t the only game in town, and it’s interesting to note that ID TECH’s products also support Google Wallet and mobile wallet app Softcard (formerly, and most unfortunately, called the Isis Mobile Wallet). These latter products have been on the market for a while – Google Wallet has been on sale in the US since 2011 – but hasn’t really taken off. That was before the introduction of biometric security measures like Apple’s fingerprint-scanning Touch ID, and indeed if Apple’s big push into the market does lead to commonplace adoption of the technology, that could have corollary benefits to competitors like Google Wallet.
