IDEMIA is once again demonstrating card technology innovation in a new collaboration with the National Bank of Kuwait that will let the latter’s customers activate a new, metal payment card via mobile app.
The card in question is the NBK KWT Visa Infinite Credit Card, which offers NBK customers a number of points-earning options that can ultimately pay off in travel bookings and electronic vouchers. More importantly from a technological perspective, they can activate the card by tapping it on their smartphone, which will open up the activation page on the NBK Mobile Banking App.
In announcing the card, IDEMIA described the latter functionality as “first-of-its-kind in Kuwait,” and asserted that the tap-to-activate process significantly reduces the time needed for card activation.
“We are pleased to partner with IDEMIA to enhance our customers’ activation and payment experience,” commented NBK Consumer Banking Group GM Mohammed Al-Othman. “The new NBK KWT Visa Infinite Credit Card reflects NBK’s commitment to offer a variety of special rewards and services through a unique banking experience. IDEMIA’s top-notch card connect service is a perfect fit to the lifestyle and needs of our Kuwaiti customers.”
The NBK KWT Visa Infinite Credit Card’s mobile activation feature offers the latest indication of IDEMIA’s ongoing efforts toward technological innovation in the payment cards space. The company has also been a pioneer of fingerprint-scanning biometric payment cards in recent years, and had developed a card security feature in which an electronic CVV number can dynamically change to prevent the misuse of lost or stolen cards.
IDEMIA’s collaboration with the National Bank of Kuwait was facilitated by its local business partner Apex International Trading Company, whose CEO, Arshad Iqbal, called the new card launch “a benchmark in the strong digital transformation among the banking sector in Kuwait.”
