“[IDEX] recently concluded two successful trials of biometric payment cards developed with Mastercard, and is preparing for more as the companies move toward a mass rollout of the cards expected for later this year.”
IDEX has great expectations for its biometric card efforts.
In a statement issued concurrently with this week’s Q1 update, the company is highlighting its “strong momentum” in working to commercialize the technology. It recently concluded two successful trials of biometric payment cards developed with Mastercard, and is preparing for more as the companies move toward a mass rollout of the cards expected for later this year.
Commenting on the effort, IDEX CEO Hemant Mardia said the biometric cards market offers enormous potential, “potentially larger than the mobile market.” Mardia also took care to note that the market goes beyond payments cards to areas like access control and identification. “We are already receiving a great deal of interest from a range of customers,” he said.
The company’s enthusiasm for these efforts is complemented by the promise of its new ASIC off-chip sensor solution, which offers applications in both flexible cards and mobile devices, where the company says it can support alternative designs seeking more space for full-size displays, according to comments made in IDEX’s Q1 update.
