IDEX has announced that it has developed a new enrollment solution for its biometric smart cards.
It’s a self-service approach, allowing end users to enroll themselves on their smart cards alone, with no need for external devices. That means they won’t need to go to a bank branch, for example, when activating a biometric credit card – a critical feature if biometric payment cards are to take off.
The announcement of IDEX’s enrollment process comes on the heels of the company’s announcement last week of an expansion of its partnership with IDEMIA, one of its key partners in the smart card market.
In a statement announcing the enrollment process, IDEX CEO Hemant Mardia emphasized framed it as one of the benefits of the company’s large area sensor technology, which “reduces the need for accurate positioning of the user’s fingers” during the enrollment process. Mardia added that the solution is further evidence of IDEX’s “continued focus on delivering innovative and seamless end-to-end solutions for biometric cards.”
IDEX says its enrollment process is patent-pending, and that it’s working with partners to incorporate it into biometric payment cards to be rolled out next year.
