“It all points to IDEX’s pursuit of opportunities in the emerging biometric cards market, particularly with respect to payment cards.”
IDEX‘s fingerprint sensor for biometric cards has been certified by a major global payment provider, the company has announced.
As for the details of the certification, IDEX is staying tight-lipped. But the revelation came from a speaker at the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association’s Powered and Next-Generation Cards Conference today, suggesting that the payment provider may be based in the APAC region.
IDEX announced that it had joined the APSCA just a few weeks ago. News of its APSCA membership was followed by the company’s announcement last week that its dual interface smart cards had passed engineering tests with Feitian, a transaction security specialist, last week.
It all points to IDEX’s pursuit of opportunities in the emerging biometric cards market, particularly with respect to payment cards. In a recent interview with FindBiometrics, IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen said that the company has been “focused on completing our deliverables for certification” in the first half of this year, adding that a shift is now underway from design and certification activities to preparation for commercial rollouts in the second half of this year.
