IDEX Biometrics is finally ready to share the results of its collaboration with Hengbao. The company first announced that it was partnering with the Chinese card manufacturer back in September, and has now revealed that it has provided the fingerprint sensor for a dual-interface biometric card that will be on display at the second annual Digital China Summit.
“This is an exciting milestone for the biometric payment card market, both in China and beyond,” said IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen. “We are proud that our dual-interface sensor is being demonstrated by one of the biggest payment schemes in the world.”
IDEX’s partnership with Hengbao was made in an attempt to expand its foothold in the Asian market, where the total number of new smart cards is expected to hit 1.8 billion annually by 2022. The company has since teamed up with other Chinese card providers, including Chutian Dragon and the Goldpac Group, to advance its interests in the region.
While IDEX had previously announced a biometric card trial with an unnamed Asian bank, the Digital China Summit in Fuzhou will give IDEX a more public showcase for the solutions that have emerged from its Chinese partnerships and help validate its ongoing efforts in the country.
