“This collaboration could help to fight the ongoing opioid abuse epidemic in America, which is estimated to have resulted in nearly 48,000 overdose deaths last year alone.”
A new partnership will see ImageWare intensify its efforts to fight the opioid epidemic: The company has teamed up with Gatekeeper Innovation, a firm that offers a medication bottle with a four-digit combination lock securing its cap.
This ‘Safer Lock’ solution will be promoted by the companies alongside ImageWare’s pillphone solution. Announced at the start of last year, the pillphone is a healthcare communications app designed to connect healthcare professionals with their patients using biometric authentication. It’s designed to help extend medical support beyond the hospital and into remote and rural areas; and together with the Safer Lock, it offers a means of helping to ensure that patients are taking their opioid medications as prescribed, and that they’re not falling into the wrong hands.

Elaborating on the partnership in a statement, Gatekeeper Innovation CEO Kim Vox explained that “[b]y educing medication diversion, improving patient adherence and connecting patients to real-time resources, the Safer Lock and pillphone partnership can change the future of patient well-being.”
