J-Metrics Licenses Precise Biometrics Tech

J-Metrics Licenses Precise Biometrics TechPrecise Biometrics has entered into yet another new licensing agreement with a hardware maker. The deal will see the company’s Precise BioMatch Mobile software integrated into new fingerprint sensors from J-Metrics, a China-based developer of fingerprint scanning technology.

The agreement is based upon an initial fixed licensing fee, plus royalty revenues from J-Metrics’ sales of products integrating Precise Biometrics’ fingerprint algorithm software. A statement announcing the deal framed it as a win-win for both companies, with J-Metrics CEO Stan Liu suggesting that it ensures that his company “can provide a competitive total solution for fingerprint recognition,” and Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson asserting on his company’s part that it “further strengthens our local presence in Asia and our position as the leading independent supplier of fingerprint software for mobile devices.”

That word ‘independent’ could be important with respect to the broader context of the deal. Over the past year, Precise Biometrics has seen strong revenues from a licensing partnership with Fingerprint Cards, which has become a leading fingerprint sensor supplier to smartphone OEMs; but Precise Biometrics may be keen to diversify its business partnerships so that it isn’t tethered to only one main partner, and has lately entered into multiple new partnerships, including Gingy Technology Co. (or Gingytech), FocalTech Systems, and Shanghai OXi Technology over the past month or so.
