Vice president of corporate development for BIO-key, Jay Meier recently published a blog post on the IBM Security Intelligence Blog declaring the end of the password. To be more clear on just how much of an end he means, in the article titled Passwords are Dead, We Need a Better System Now begins with a quote from PayPal’s Michael Barrett, “Passwords are failing us,” and goes on to detail exactly what this means, what is being done about it and just what we should be considering before investing in the future of logical access control.
The kind of commentary provided in the article is much needed in a climate that is turning feverish when it comes to mCommerce. According to Meier, citing a May 2013 White-Paper US Mobile Payments Landscape-Two Years Later, inadequate attention is being paid to payment security measures despite the surprisingly fast development of mobile payment applications. The article points to many authentication and authorization solutions including third-party biometric scanner options
