The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has implemented an AI-enabled application process for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2025, incorporating Aadhaar-based authentication to streamline applications and enhance security measures. The implementation follows a broader trend across Indian states adopting biometric verification for educational and administrative processes.
The new simplified application process requires students to upload only a photo and signature, replacing the previous system that demanded multiple document submissions. The authentication system includes multiple security layers, featuring OTP verification sent to registered mobile numbers and facial recognition technology, similar to systems recently implemented for GST registration in Andhra Pradesh.
With the new Aadhaar-based authentication system, applicants can enter their Aadhaar number to receive an OTP on their Aadhaar-linked mobile number, adding an additional layer of security to prevent impersonation attempts. The system is part of India’s broader initiative to strengthen secure digital identity verification across government services.
“Earlier, students used to complain that filing CET application forms would take 2-3 hours as some columns, like Kannada medium and rural category, had to be filled for every academic year they studied,” said KEA Executive Director H Prasanna. “This time, students will not have to upload any documents except for a signature in JPG format and a photo.”
The authority has implemented three enhanced security measures for the examination: webcasting, frisking with assistance from home guards, and facial recognition. The facial recognition system will use the photographs submitted during the application process to verify candidate identity, reflecting a growing trend of biometric authentication in Indian educational institutions and government examinations.
The CET 2025 application window remains open until February 18, 2025, with over 3,700 students completing their applications on the first day. The examination is scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2025, and will be conducted in traditional pen and paper format. The implementation represents another step in India’s ongoing digitalization of educational processes, following similar initiatives in states like Haryana, where Aadhaar authentication has become mandatory for government job examinations.
