South Korean cybersecurity firm RaonSecure Co. announced it has secured a project to develop and implement a demo environment for Indonesia’s integrated digital identity service.
The company will provide consulting on digital security frameworks and offer training for public officials on enhancing digital ID capabilities. RaonSecure will also work on linking citizen services with a blockchain-based decentralized identifier system.
The news follows the company’s successful completion of a consulting project last year on the design of Indonesia’s national digital ID.
Established in 1998, RaonSecure specializes in digital security solutions, including identity verification, authentication, and blockchain technology. Over the years, the company has developed a strong reputation for its work in digital identity and cybersecurity, both domestically and internationally. RaonSecure’s portfolio includes biometric authentication systems, secure mobile services, and blockchain-based decentralized identifier (DID) solutions.
The company may therefore be well-equipped to help Indonesia pursue its digital ID efforts, which have progressed rapidly in recent months.
Toward the end of last year, authorities announced legislation that would require citizens to enroll in a digital ID system, which would be issued by an “Electronic Certification Provider”. Just a few months later, the country’s Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (“Dukcapil”) was enrolling citizens in a new Digital Population Identity (IKD) digital app, asking users to input their identification number, date of birth, and other personal information, and to upload a photo.
That app was reportedly developed in collaboration with Estonian authorities, building on the latter country’s pioneering work in digital ID.
Earlier this month, Indonesian authorities unveiled the “INA Pass,” the digital ID system that will allow citizens to access various government services through a single sign-on gateway. The registration process for INA Pass involves using selfie biometrics for identity verification, aiming to streamline the currently fragmented system.
Authorities plan to launch the centralized portal in September of this year.
