Austroads has collaborated with MATTR to introduce Digital Trust Service (DTS) capabilities. This initiative aims to streamline various digital credentials in Australia, creating a cohesive digital credential environment.
Austroads, a coalition of Australian and New Zealand transport agencies, strives to enhance road transport and traffic management. It offers guidance in creating a unified, safe, and sustainable transport network.
The Austroads National Digital Trust Service will establish digital infrastructure to support Mobile Drivers Licences (mDL) across Australia. According to Austroads Chief Executive Dr. Geoff Allan, the DTS will ensure the secure verification of mDLs nationwide, regardless of the issuing authority or location. The initial phase includes a pre-production version of the DTS, utilizing the MATTR VII platform.
“This initiative, spearheaded by Austroads and supported by MATTR, aims to boost convenience and confidence through high-assurance, high-trust interactions,” said MATTR CEO Claire Barber.
The partnership will be highlighted at the 10th International Interoperability Test Event (IVC24 Interop) in Sydney from October 3 to 5. Prior to this event, Austroads and MATTR will host webinars to outline mDLs and the DTS. The collaboration seeks to showcase the benefits of the Austroads DTS in various digital credential applications, with future project phases extending DTS capabilities to include additional trust services and credential types.
MATTR gained significant traction in Australia’s growing digital ID sector last year through its role in a New South Wales project, where it was chosen as the technology partner for the state’s Digital ID and Verifiable Credentials program. This project aimed to enable residents to securely verify their identity while minimizing personal data sharing.
