Integrated Biometrics technology is helping to secure the Ukrainian border.

The company has revealed that its Sherlock FAP 45 fingerprint sensor has been integrated into passport-scanning tablets developed by domestic partner Bancomzvjazok JSC. Dubbed the “BPT800” tablet, the handheld is designed for use in extreme environmental conditions and remote locations; and over a hundred such units are currently being used by the State Border Guard Service to identify travelers seeking to cross the border.

In a statement announcing the deployment, Bancomzvjazok JSC Border Control Systems Department Director Oleksandr Grianka lauded the biometric technology used in his firm’s tablets. “We’ve been very impressed with the reliability of Integrated Biometrics’ light-emitting sensor technology and Sherlock’s incredibly compact size,” he said, adding that the State Border Guard Service “receives all the benefits of mobile two-finger verification without adding significantly to the size or weight of our solution.”

The Sherlock sensor has seen a number of such heavy-duty integrations and deployments over the last few years; with respect to this latest development, Integrated Biometrics did not reveal in its announcement the value of its contract with Bancomzvjazok JSC, but did assert that organization had “purchased an additional 100” units of the Sherlock sensor.
